The search for a new president of the International Cricket Council (ICC), the world’s governing body of cricket, has begun. If reports are to be believed, the two most famous Indian cricketers, Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah, will compete in this race. The news turned out to be nothing more than a rumour.
According to The Telegraph, a major news organisation in Kolkata, Barclay does not want to step down, and his spokesperson dismissed any such reports as rumours. It has also been said of Ganguly that he is not in a hurry because he is still young. When his three-year term as BCCI president comes to an end in October, he will have the option of serving a second three-year term before entering the cooling-off period.
The current President is Greg Barkley.
Greg Barkley’s term as chairman comes to an end in November of this year. Barkley was also a former board member and chairman of the Northern Districts Cricket Association, as well as the director of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2015. Barkley had taken the place of Singapore’s Imran Khawaja, who had resigned in 2020, and India’s Shashank Manohar. India, England, Australia, and New Zealand voted in favour of Barkley, who advocated for more bilateral series between teams. Khawaja, on the other hand, had the Pakistan Cricket Board’s support.

The President was the highest position in the ICC until 2014. The ICC rules were updated in 2014, and the position of chairman was added. The first two Indian presidents of the ICC were Jagmohan Dalmiya (1997–2000) and Sharad Pawar (2010–2012).
